Tropical Art Deco

One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Christ the Redeemer stands atop the Corcovado Mountain and welcomes us daily with open arms. The statue is the world’s largest sculpture in art deco, a style that was very much present in the 1920’s and 30’s and can still be found today in many of Rio’s classic buildings. We’ve picked out a sample of our favorite art deco buildings in Copacabana and Ipanema. The stretch that brings together these remnants of live history is affectionately referred to as “Copanema,” but relics from that period can be seen all over the city. Check out our favorite locations below and go see them yourself!
