“Rua”, the current collective exhibition of MAR
Jan > April 2020
“Rua”, the current collective exhibition of MAR, brings together 80 works by artists such as Carlos Vergara, Evandro Teixeira and Paula Trope until April.
Until the 1st of April, the Museum of Art of Rio presents to the public the exhibition “Rua!”. Occupying a room in the pavilion, the group show gathers around 80 works, including photographs, videos, graffiti and sculptures – by artists such as Carlos Vergara, Evandro Teixeira, Paula Trope, Guga Ferraz, Tiago Sant’Ana and Tia Lúcia, among others – that are part of the MAR Collection, as well as five graffiti artists invited to create works especially for the exhibition – Panmela Castro, Cruz, Rack, Ramo Negro and Coletivo I love MP. The curatorship is signed by the museum team, under the coordination of Marcelo Campos.
The exhibition reinforces MAR’s vocation to discuss the social issues of cities and to put art in dialogue with street culture. “The street vibrates with the pulse of the city, of passersby, who see it in different ways through advertisements, voices, traffic and, mainly, the invention of languages. Based on these attitudes and gestures, the museum’s collection dialogues and divides the exhibition into four groups: wandering, ruins, violence and demonstrations. Thus, the project results in the sum of curatorial gestures that merge into artistic incorporations, opening the exhibition room to the street, with its uses and counter-uses, in rhyme battles, vowels, street dances and slams, among others ”, says Campos.
